As if we weren't inundated enough by O.J. Simpson news,Naked Reunion (1993) the infamous leather glove bandit is now getting his own museum for one week, at the end of August, in Los Angeles.

The museum will take over Chinatown's Coagula Curatorial Gallery from August 18 to 22, and it will feature more than 300 artifacts connected to Simpson's 1995 court case, where he was tried for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

"The museum is about the phenomenon associated with [Simpson]; not about him," said the museum's curator, Adam Papagan. Papagan insisted that if Simpson had not been associated with the murders, he would not have a museum about him.

"He'd be just another washed up football player," Papagan said.

The museum will feature a white 1994 Ford Bronco -- reportedly for attendees to take pictures with -- although it is not the original car from Simpson's notorious high-speed highway chase.

"It's dedicated to the pop culture phenomenon, and our culture's relationship with this [case] as an entity; as something that happened," Papagan said. "It was a historical event -- something that we all lived through."

The museum announcement comes a week after Simpson was granted parole after serving just nine years out of a 33-year sentence for a 2008 armed robbery.

In addition to items associated with Simpson's court case, the museum will also feature a wide array of souvenirs, sports memorabilia, a never before seen collection of bootleg Simpson t-shirts, and O.J. Simpson-inspired art.

The point of the museum, according to Papagan, is to explore the pop culture impact of Simpson's case beyond the headlines.

"The trial has been excessively documented by the media, but we only have the trial's perspective," he said. "I wanted to tell the people's version of the story."

We're not exactly sure what the "people's version" of Simpson's story will look like as represented by the museum. It's no secret to most that Simpson himself is, to say the least, a nefarious character.

Despite Papagan's claims to the contrary, the whole museum feels like it could easily come across like a fetishization of criminal acts, excused only by the fact that our culture was, at a time, obsessed with the details of an increasingly bizarre and troubling case. “Is the documentary on ESPN offensive?" Papagan said. "Is the show with John Travolta offensive? This is something that happened; if you’re offended by it you’re missing the point. The whole thing is not about him, it’s about what he represents.” But allowing attendees to pose for Instagram pictures and highlighting memorabilia from Simpson's sports past -- washed up or not -- sounds like it's feeding into that culture rather than presenting it in any kind of educational format.

Papagan assured LAist that the museum would be "very respectful," and feature a tribute to Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
