Tesla owners who’ve spent tons of money and classic sex moviestime on repairs, rejoice.
The most valuable automaker in the U.S. said it plans to open a line of company-owned body shops for Tesla owners in need of out-of-warranty repairs in its Q1 2017 quarterly earnings letter.
The new service comes as part of an infrastructure effort to expand "the density and geographic footprint of our presence" in preparation of the launch of the "affordable" Model 3 later this year, according to the letter. To give customers even more places to have their cars serviced, Tesla says it will also expand the existing network of third-party certified body shops.
This will likely come as a relief to Tesla owners. They've reported difficulties with repairs, which can be outlandishly expensive and take months to complete as third-party shops have had struggled to get the right parts. Unfortunately, Elon Musk doesn't jump to cover the repairs for just any old thrashed Model S.
The automaker will also look to beef up its mobile repair service, which depends on repair trucks to visit customers on house calls for minor fixes. Over 100 of the trucks will be added to the fleet in the coming months.
Tesla didn't specify exactly how many of the service shops will be opened or where -- but they're part of a plan to add "nearly 100" retail, delivery and service locations around the world.
