The eroticized paintingsDJI Spark is one of those fun, selfie-taking drones you'll want as soon as you see it. But if you already own one, you need to update it by September 1 — or risk never flying it again.
SEE ALSO: Drug cartels are now using hulking drones to smuggle goods over the borderOn Monday, DJI announced a new firmware update for Spark drones coming later this week in response to a problem that was causing some of them to fall out of the sky while flying.
There's only one catch: People who don't update the firmware will no longer be able to use their drones. They simply will not take off anymore.
In a blog post, DJI says it "decided on the option of a mandatory firmware update in order to maximize flight safety and product reliability which [the company] consider as top priorities."
DJI also claims the firmware is supposed to "enhance Spark's battery management system to optimize power supply during flight." Spark owners can download the new firmware on the DJI GO 4 App when connected to the internet.
Other changes being added with the update are support for DJI Goggles, better stability for PalmLaunch, more accurate control under QuickShot Dronie mode, and better compatibility of the remote controller for new firmware syncing.
So, either update your Spark or let it sit in sadness for the rest of time. You've got until September 1 to make the change, but don't forget about it before it's too late.
