The Michael Maienfirst phase of Xiaomi’s electric vehicle factory has completed construction, according to a September 1 report by Chinese news outlet Yicai. The factory is located in Beijing E-Town, a national level economic and technical development zone, the report said. Xiaomi plans to construct its factory in two phases, with the first phase starting in April 2022, covering an area of nearly 720,000 square meters. Phase two is expected to commence in 2024 and finish by 2025, according to the report. The four manufacturing facilities and one testing facility established in the first phase can carry out stamping, welding, painting, and battery assembly. Xiaomi president Lu Weibing previously said that the company has made more progress than expected in manufacturing electric vehicles, and its target for mass EV production is on target for the first half of 2024.
